Este proyecto surgió de la experiencia de estar varado en un país completamente desconocido gracias a un problema con mi visa. Estuve allí dos meses desde diciembre 2018 hasta febrero 2019. En este periodo de tiempo me pregunté si era posible hacer retratos de las personas que son importantes para mí, incluso si están muy lejos. Empecé a tomar fotografías de cosas o situaciones que me recuerdan a estas personas. En términos sencillos este es un álbum familiar.
Hice la maqueta a mano (solo tenía hilo rojo,) con base en ella construí el archivo en Indesign, el proyecto completo puede ser visto aquí: https://issuu.com/danyvigil/docs/portraits_absence_preview

How emotional the text at the beginning of the book. Definitely (as we have analyzed in the course) defines a certain humor for the reader, with which the images of the interior will be seen. In general, I tend to recommend not putting texts that tell us or "explain" what the book is about (or our intentions) from the very beginning, but in this case, I think it works well. Anyway, if you were interested, you could test the narrative implications of putting it at the end, or in the middle of the book. A suggestion / comment I would make is to start the sequence with a double page photo (or a short series of photos) (like, for example, what you do on 58-59). I think that, unlike how the beginning is planned now, it could put (us) readers immediately on your journey / journey. I understand the use of putting the images on the page to refer to the distance and the fragmentation of memory, but I think you could push it a little further, making the photos appear with the same logic but in a slightly more risky way. I imagine, for example, a photo that extends to the next double page, inviting the reader to turn the page and continue reading, creating a chain and not "solving" each double page separately.
It is true that the book can be defined by the sum of the double pages but I find it interesting to stretch those limits and think about linking them in a whole, with a continuous cycle, where the associations between pages (and images) intensify.
