I'm a little wanting to know more about your process, but the end result is great. The character is very well done, with his joints and the application of textures / shading to give the feeling of materiality. The environment is great! All the texturing and brush work on the plants is full of details that give more depth and visual richness to the illustration.
As a suggestion, I would say that the background, the landscape seen from behind, could have some detail to finish giving it depth and scale reference (eg a boat, some waves, a cloud). Maybe it was meant to be stripped down and that's fine too, but a little detail could help there.
I started looking with the diagram that you propose in the course and I liked the idea of mixing a robot on an island.
Then I looked for references to a setting that caught my attention, I came to an illustration where there is abundant vegetation in the foreground and a character in the background. I started then there, everything that appears in the foreground
taking a lollipop that got me. I had some references to the robot from an illustrator (Leandro Frizzera).
I think that the idea of island and robot was generating in me the feeling of loneliness, abandonment and based on that I generated the rest of the shot. I think the textures and style of the character were a bit different in relation to the leaves.
I think it's good to add some detail to the background to give it a little more perspective. I'm not even convinced by the background color.
The textures of the plants and the character, I think it is more a matter of scale, I feel that you applied the brushes in the leaves in a larger size, and in the robot, smaller. But it doesn't seem so noticeable to me because it is understood that they are at different distances and that you are also representing very different materialities. Maybe the robot could have more bluish shadows, like in the plants (or some detail), and play more with the textures in Overlay (as I think you did in some leaves).
