Maki Takahashi

I am a food artist with a BA degree in Art. I prefer 3D art over 2D and create edible art pieces by using techniques of cake decoration (Wilton style and Lambeth styles), bread making (Italian and Central Asian tyles), cookie molding (German and Danish styles), and fruit carving (Thai, Japanese, and Chinese styles). My inspirations come from various cultures and techniques.

I also like architecture (Gothic cathedrals, Japanese temples and shrines) and religious art (mandalas, Buddhist statue carving, and food for holidays, singing, and dancing) as well as crafts (Japanese yosegi wood inlay). Nature also inspires me a lot. And I like animals, insects, and birds.

Currently I am based in Tokyo, Japan. In the past, I lived in the United States for over 10 years, learning art and craft. I hope to travel the world, making friends, learn about various cultures, and publish books and do shows of my edible art.

I also work as a language specialist with a degree of Ph. D. in Communications. Trained to become a translator, I can do simultaneous and consecutive translation between English and Japanese. Introducing food and culture as a speaker is another skill of mine backed by knowledge as a certified tourist guide by the Japanese government. I used to teach for American colleges and universities, Communications' theories and speech. Thus public speaking is also a strength of myself.
