I've always loved making/creating things. My grandmother first taught me to sew, bake and knit. She was a very talented lady. Several of the grandchildren inherited skills, but in different areas. I have the desire to create things and it is a way for me to relax and be transported to a much calmer environment. I see things with colours and textures and very often a specific purpose and I'm driven to see if I can make it and wonder how it will look. It's often the challenge that drives me to try new things. Pottery has so many facets to it and I am constantly intrigued by what I see around me. I'm not very good at any one particular thing but pulling together my skills of design, drawing, interpretation of things usually end in a fairly good all round result. I'm sometimes amazed by the results. It gives me a lot of pleasure to see how some people react to what I've made. I have never studies art, and I'm not a very technical person, so most of what I do is very much by experimentation and trial and error. I've learnt some hard lessons, but that's ok. I'm doing this course so that I can, in a practical way learn more skills and broaden my knowledge. I like my pieces to be immediately recognizable amongst the other members of our pottery club.
