I am a felt artist. Needlefelting, wet felting, nuno felting... I love wool because of its low carbon footprint, the versatility of wool and what it can be used for, spinning, weaving, knitting, and of course, felting. I have used wool in many projects, and there are as many projects as you can possibly dream of..every artist will craft with their wool in different ways, giving many ways of expressing their own creativity.
I love natural fibres and fabrics, slow fashion, and items that can be given new life as they become worn. I have many pieces of fabric.. Some can become part of a felting project, but not all. This is where I envisage sashiko and beautiful slow stitching techniques coming together, to create a "new" and sustainable piece of work. A new garment, a gift for a friend...I have sold commissions of my felted work, but mostly these days, I make gifts for friends and family. These range from 3D felted animals, pictures made with felt and hand dyed locks from a few of the 54 breeds of sheep we have in the UK. I have made a coat, and I teach felting techniques to small classes. There has been a huge growth and development around those interested in felting, and creating something different.
I love colour, and enjoy dyeing my own fleece, and incorporating it into colourful, and for me, exciting projects.
Sashiko and it's cultural background is exciting, and again, a sustainable practice with unique results.
