I’m Jamie, an aspiring journalist, photojournalist and photographer, currently living in London.
I developed an interest in photography through my love of landscapes and my attempt to capture the beauty of what I saw – a purely aesthetic pursuit.
Feeling stuck, I broadened my subject matter to include street photography, studio portraiture and analogue, including development of my own film.
This led to a greater understanding of the medium in general, a higher appreciation of both film and digital and an increase in my perception of both beauty and tragedy in the world around me.
Studying street photography also led to an appreciation of authentic, powerful and candid images that successfully capture the drama of a moment. Pictures that can tell a story.
Sensing that journalism and photojournalism could inspire me, I began to write, combining my words and images in an online blog.
This continues to be my goal and I have started some formal journalism training from the NCTJ while continuing to develop my photography by joining the Royal Photographic Society.
I hope that this course can provide me with a framework to develop my photojournalism and a better understanding of the processes involved in developing and telling a story.
The project I would share is about the proliferation of palm trees in London and whether is this a cause or effect of climate change.
Are we subconsciously, or otherwise, encouraging climate change by embracing non-native species?
Being a Freemason, I’ve been taught the power of Karma and how our hopes, fears and desires all affect the world.
The power of our own beliefs is unknown to many but can change our realities.
