Ermina Apostolaki is an artist and a designer. Her artistic practice includes working for theatre and film productions and creating interdisciplinary performance projects through rigorous research. The fundamentals of her work are routed on the triptych of national identity, collective memory networks and tradition, as seen from the female perspective. She believes that space approached physically and theoretically allows one to work through different media. Each project conceptualizes and engages with symbolism on various issues, such as faith and its limits, homophobia, the notion of home, or the relationship between poetry and the urban space. Researchwise, she has been focusing on how site-based art could be used to preserve collective memory networks in danger, especially in formerly industrial cities. Also, she has worked on the interplay between precariat audiences and performance art. She actively supports collaborative and participatory working methods, as she believes we can stay relevant to today’s audiences only through forming common grounds.
