You'll do a walkthrough of Mike Sandoval’s professional career, his experience as an illustrator, and his main influences from comics, painting, and contemporary illustration.

You'll learn how an idea is developed, by performing simple exercises, and how they can be turned into something much bigger. You'll learn the importance of having a file of your own references, and you’ll review the materials you'll use during the course.

Then, you'll brainstorm ideas that will help you explore different approaches to your project, discarding mundane ideas and identifying strong points. Once you have an idea ready to start working, you'll learn different sketching techniques to create a range of options.

After developing several sketches, Mike will teach you to identify opportunities in each of them, before you finally choose the one with the most potential.

Then you'll start developing your final project. You'll choose the illustration technique that you like best —ink, watercolor, markers, collage— and you'll get to work. When you finish your illustration, you'll digitize it and give it the final touches in Adobe Photoshop.

Finally, Mike will give you some tips to get the most out of your project, applying your artwork to different types of merchandise.
