Illustration for Creative Minds: Reinventing the Ordinary

“Dear student, we have reached the end of the course. I hope it has been very useful and that you have enjoyed it as much as I did. In the journey that we take in this course we move from what we considered limits, that is, the first clock we draw, boring, known and used a thousand times, towards the search for more unique, specific, and effective variants, in tune with history or the concept we want to talk about as authors. Then we first obtained a range of possibilities that we did not know, in that instance we used drawing as a thinking tool, we obtained unusual, unexpected combinations, which were the fuel for the creation of ideas and metaphors, with which we realized, that we can talk about any topic. In my final illustration, I used a clock to talk about destiny, specifically about agency. I will be attentive in the forum to consultations, to exchange experiences and all your work. We are in touch! Christian”

In a first unit it seemed important to convey what is, from my point of view, the difference between drawing and illustrating, something key in relation to our trade. We also saw how important it is to remove preconcep...”

Illustrator and Designer

Cristian Turdera studied Design and worked in advertising agencies from a young age. This experience gave him a distinctive outlook on the value of ideas, concepts, and about the power of what an image is capable of communicating. He has always drawn, which eventually led him to illustrate professionally.

Today, he uses both—illustration and design—in his work. He published his first illustrations in a school book over twenty years ago and is still in the field, with lots of enthusiasm, always seeking new opportunities. He has worked for editorials such as Penguin Random House, Editorial SM, Alfaguara, or Pequeño Editor, and many more.

As well as illustrating books, Cristian also illustrates toys and other products for clients like Arcor, Ruibal, Djeco toys, Peabody, and more. He illustrates for audiovisual projects, magazines, and even installations.
