Visual Travel Journals Specialization

Final Project: My Emotional Atlas: An artistic collection of travel journals Objective Create a personal collection of travel journals that combines artistic and narrative techniques learned throughout the specialization, transforming memories, emotions, and landscapes into an authentic visual testimony consistent with your style. Project description This project is the culmination of a creative journey guided by the inspiring voices of Aniko Villalba, Powerpaola, Iván Cruz, Alicia Aradilla, and Laura Bernal. Throughout this experience, you will not only learn techniques for illustrating, painting, and bookbinding, but also how to observe the world with a more sensitive eye and capture it on paper in a unique way. Your "Emotional Atlas" will be a collection of travel journals where each page will bring together what you have learned: from spontaneous and narrative drawing to atmospheric watercolor, including expressive collages and handmade bindings. Throughout the process you will also learn about the references, passions and inspirations of each teacher, and that will enrich your work with new perspectives that dialogue with your own visual voice. Project Components 1. Idea and concept • Personal reflection on your travel experience, real or symbolic. • Selection of the themes that will guide each notebook: landscapes, emotions, moments, people, etc. 2. Applied techniques • Watercolor to capture atmospheres, light and color. • Collage and mixed media techniques to enrich the composition. • Emotional writing and graphic narrative to express experiences. • French binding to create a handcrafted and durable support. 3. Personal Style • Exploration of your stroke, color, rhythm and way of telling. • Development of a unique visual language based on the influences and tools seen in the specialization. 4. Presentation • Attention to visual details and the aesthetic coherence of the collection. • Integration between text, image and materiality. Steps for development 1. Gathering references and materials: inspire your project with personal experiences, images, objects and references seen in the specialization. 2. Conceptual design: define the emotional, graphic and narrative approach of your collection. 3. Sketching: Develop initial ideas for illustrations, compositions, and narrative sequences. 4. Technical exploration: experiment with watercolor, collage, ink, pencil, recycled paper and writing. 5. Content production: develop the main pages of each newspaper by combining text and image. 6. Handmade bookbinding: apply the French sewing technique to create the physical support for your collection. 7. Final editing: review, select and organize your pages with intention and visual criteria. 8. Visual reflection: write a visual essay that connects all the pieces, techniques, and emotions of the project. Final delivery • 1 hand-bound logbook using French stitching. • 5 sections or sets of pages that reflect each technique learned • 1 visual essay that emotionally and visually connects the entire collection. • High-quality photographs or scans of the most outstanding pages. You've explored a creative landscape filled with techniques, perspectives, and emotions. What you now hold in your hands is not just a collection of journals: it's an authentic reflection of your way of experiencing the world. Keep traveling, observing, and creating, because every stroke, every word, and every page has the power to tell your story in a unique way.”
