Guided Project: Hand-Drawn Visual Notes for Presentations
“Now it's your turn to put everything you've learned into practice. This project is designed to help you apply the knowledge from the course in a creative and personal way. If you're not sure where to start, don’t worry—we’ll give you some ideas to get going and let your imagination flow. What matters most is that you explore, experiment, and enjoy the process while developing your own project. Share your result with the community and get inspired by others! 1. Summarize a TED Talk with a dynamic visual sketchnote Choose a TED Talk that inspires you and summarize it in a sketchnote that combines key words, drawings, and visual structures to communicate the main ideas clearly and creatively. Pay attention to the flow of the talk, the most powerful concepts, and how to visualize them. Example project: Sketchnote of “The Power of Vulnerability” by Brené Brown, highlighting key concepts like connection, empathy, and authenticity. 2. Explain a complex process with a step-by-step sketchnote Think of a process you often explain to others (how an engine works, how to brew specialty coffee, or how to organize your day) and turn it into a clear and engaging sketchnote. Use visual elements like arrows, sequences, icons, and characters to support understanding. Example project: Visual guide to brewing coffee with a Chemex, from grinding the beans to the final pour. 3. Create a visual guide on your favorite topic Develop a sketchnote that acts as a mini-guide to something you're passionate about: film, music, cooking, history, science... The goal is to share enthusiasm and knowledge through a coherent and well-structured visual narrative. Example project: Sketchnote on indie film movements with graphic references, key directors, and narrative styles. 4. Illustrate a personal story or meaningful anecdote Choose a personal experience you'd like to share and transform that memory into a visual narrative. Reflect on what emotions you want to convey and how the visual structure can enhance the impact of the story. Example project: Sketchnote about your first day in a new city, including mind maps, emotions, challenges, and discoveries. 5. Live sketchnoting: document a class, podcast, or event Practice your synthesis and real-time drawing skills by creating a live sketchnote. Choose an online lecture, podcast episode, or recorded class. Focus on capturing the key ideas while maintaining a clear and fluid design. Example project: Live sketchnote of “The Daily” podcast episode on a current topic, combining facts, quotes, and visual elements. ”
