UX /UI Design Specialization: From Research to Accessibility

Final Project: Design a Complete UX/UI Case Study for a Real or Fictional Product Objective The goal of this final project is to apply all the skills learned throughout the specialization to create a validated, high-fidelity UX/UI prototype, using a user-centered design process. You'll research, plan, design, and present a digital product or service interface, crafting a portfolio-ready case study that demonstrates your understanding of accessibility, storytelling, and interaction design. Project Description You will create a complete UX/UI project from start to finish, designing a digital experience (website, mobile app, or web platform) based on user needs. Your prototype will be supported by research findings, a visual style guide, and a compelling user narrative. Your project will include: 1. UX research to define the problem and target users 2. Personas, journey maps, and user flows 3. Visual hierarchy and UI principles applied in Figma 4. Storytelling techniques to strengthen emotional connection 5. Accessibility strategies to ensure inclusive user experiences 6. A final case study presentation for your portfolio Project Components 1. Topic Selection & Research Plan • Choose a real-world problem or fictional scenario to solve with UX/UI design • Conduct qualitative or quantitative user research (interviews, surveys, benchmarks) • Define your research questions, write a research plan, and analyze key insights 2. User Definition & Problem Framing • Create one or two user personas and corresponding journey maps • Define user pain points, motivations, and opportunities for improvement • Frame your design challenge as a clear, actionable problem statement 3. Storytelling & Experience Mapping • Build a story structure with audience, purpose, and emotional connection • Sketch wireframes that illustrate key moments in the user experience • Translate your story into early lo-fi mockups 4. UI Design in Figma • Define a visual style guide: typography, color palette, iconography • Build a hi-fi prototype using Figma: screens, navigation, buttons, modals • Design with affordances and hierarchy in mind • Ensure consistency and functionality across different devices 5. Accessibility & Inclusive Design • Apply accessible color contrast, alt text, and clear typographic structure • Use feedback states, error prevention, and alternative navigation elements • Consider animations, interactions, and microcopy to support diverse users 6. Presentation & Portfolio Case Study • Export your prototype and create a case study that documents the full process: a) Research insights b) Personas and flows c) Visual development d) Accessibility decisions e) Final prototype walkthrough • Summarize key learnings, challenges, and next steps Final Submission • A clickable high-fidelity Figma prototype • A PDF or online case study document with your full design process • Supporting visuals (personas, user journeys, sketches, style guide) • A short reflection on what you learned and how you approached each phase Tips for Success • Focus on solving a real user need—your research will guide your design. • Stay consistent in your visual language and component usage. • Share your prototype for quick feedback before finalizing. • Don’t overlook storytelling—how you present your project is as important as the design itself. • Keep accessibility top of mind from the very beginning. Design is about understanding people first. Every screen, every button, every word should serve the user’s journey. Let your design tell a story that’s not just functional, but also meaningful and inclusive.”
