Specialization in Creative Writing and Children's Illustration
About the final project for: Specialization in Creative Writing and Children's Illustration
Children's Book Mastery: Writing, Illustration, and Publishing
“The goal is for you to apply what you have learned in the modules by creating a full page for a children's book. This will include a short piece of narrative text, an illustrated character and a setting that brings a simple and creative story to life. To create the page follow these steps: - Write a short paragraph (2-3 sentences) that tells part of a children's story. - Create an illustration that represents the narrated moment, including at least one character and a basic setting. - Present the final page as if it were part of a children's book. The approach is accessible and flexible, allowing students to explore their creativity without the pressure of creating a full story. STEPS FOR DEVELOPMENT Define your topic and idea: - Choose a simple theme or situation that you want to represent (for example, a day in the park, an adventure in the forest, or a magical encounter). - Imagine a central character who is the protagonist of your story. Write your paragraph: - Write a short and simple snippet for your page. Example: "Luna, the adventurous kitten, found a magic shoe under the big tree in the park. When she touched it, the shoe began to shine and tell her an incredible secret." Design and illustrate: Character: Draw the main character following the character creation techniques learned in the course. Scenario: Design a simple background that gives context to the action. Style: Experiment with colors and textures that reinforce the narrative. Organize your page: Combine your text and illustration into a balanced layout, just like a page from a children's book. You can do it digitally (Procreate) or traditionally (pencils, watercolors, etc.). Document your process: - Take photos or screenshots of each stage: initial sketches, character creation, background development, and final design. - Write short notes about your creative decisions and what you learned. FINAL DELIVERY The full page: - An image or photo of the finished page, with the text integrated and the final illustration. Creative process: - Share images of your work in progress (sketches, color tests, composition). Personal reflection: - Write a brief comment about your experience: What was the most fun? What challenge did you face and how did you overcome it? Every story begins with a page, and every page tells a world. Share your creation with pride, because with every character and every word, you are bringing to life a universe that only you can imagine. Let's keep creating together! ”
