About the final project for: Specialization in Ceramic Illustration and Decoration
Illustration and Ceramic Decoration
“Final Project: Your illustrated ceramic collection Objective The goal of this final project is to create a small collection of ceramic pieces decorated in your personal style. You will apply the techniques learned throughout the course to model, glaze, illustrate, or decorate utilitarian or decorative objects that reflect your creative vision. This will be your opportunity to transform everyday objects into handmade art. Project Description During the course, you explored different ways of working with ceramics: from hand-sculpting to painting, glazing, and illustration with decals or ceramic pigments. Now it's time to bring everything you've learned together to design your own series of unique pieces: plates, cups, bowls, or decorative objects. Your final project should reflect not only your technical skills, but also your approach to storytelling, color, and bringing functional objects to life through design. Project components 1. Idea and concept • Define what type of pieces you are going to create (for example: breakfast set, mini decorative collection, narrative pieces). • Choose a common thread: it can be a story, a character, a color palette, or an emotion. 2. Applied techniques • Manual modeling or decoration on already made pieces. • Hand painting, ceramic decals, glazing or use of pigments. • Techniques seen in the course such as illustration on deck, under deck or third fire. 3. Personal style • Make sure your work has visual coherence. • Incorporate details, colors, or narratives that represent your creative identity. 4. Presentation • Take care of the finishes and cleanliness of each piece. • If they are utilitarian, make sure they are also functional. • If they are decorative, think about how they will be presented: on the wall, the table, or as a loose object. Steps for development 1. Inspiration and sketches • Define your general idea and make some preliminary drawings or diagrams. 2. Production • Model, paint or decorate your pieces according to your chosen approach. 3. Final details • Glaze, bake (if applicable) and make necessary adjustments to achieve the desired result. 4. Documentation • Photograph your collection in good light. • Write a short text explaining your creative process and the concept of your series. Final delivery • 2 to 4 ceramic pieces decorated with at least one technique learned in the course. • Well-cared-for photographs of the finished pieces. • Sketches, references or images of the process. • A short text (max. 200 words) about your inspiration, technique and proposal. Your final collection is a reflection of your process, of everything you explored and discovered throughout the course. But above all, it's an invitation to continue creating fearlessly, with curiosity, and with your personal touch. Every piece you made has something of your own: an idea, an emotion, an intention. And that's what makes it unique. Trust in what you've built with your hands and value what comes from your intuition. This is just the beginning of everything you can still create.”
