Drawing the Human Figure & Expressive Poses
“Thank you so much for taking part in this course and I hope you've enjoyed it. It's now time to work on your project. This could mean finishing the sketch you started by completing the course tasks or making a brand-new project! Either way, I strongly suggest you take the time to gather inspiration and make a unique project of your own. Make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It'd be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way and tell me if you have any doubts. This will help me guide you better if you need advice. Here are the main steps to follow: The Reference Pick a reference picture of a dynamic pose. The Study Analyze the pose by understanding the balance, movement, volume, and readability. Explore the pose. Are there any adjustments you'd like to make? Do you feel comfortable drawing the head? Make sure you feel 80% confident in drawing the final artwork. The Outline Using a light-colored ballpoint pen or pencil, draw the mannequin. Make sure you plot the whole figure on the page. Adding Weight Determine the type of line weight you'd like to add to different parts of the drawing and illustrate the final drawing. If you make a mistake, don't worry about it. Just keep going.

Although we've captured the essence of each theme and applied it to our figure, it's no wonder if you're still struggling. Honestly, it took me a couple of years to understand volume alone. So use your sketchbook to feel and learn. Of course, we work towards a final project of d...”
