About the final project for: Designing Minimalist Stationery: Creative Techniques and Ideas

Minimalist Graphic Design for Stationery Products

“Thanks for joining me in this course! It has been a pleasure to share my best tips and tricks with you. For your course project. don’t recreate what you have seen, but be original and challenge yourself to create something from inside yourself. Here's an example of how I would love to see your project: Define the Project Scope and Objectives Identify the type of product you want to create (e.g., planner, notebook, catalog). Then, clearly outline the goals and objectives of your project. Also, determine the target audience for your product. Conduct Market Research Explore existing products similar to your concept and analyze their strengths and weaknesses. Identify gaps in the market that your product could fill. Gather Inspiration and References Create a mood board with images, colors, textures, and typography that inspire you. You can also collect any physical objects or samples that could inform your design.

Material Selection and Testing Identify the materials needed for your project, including paper, binding, and other supplies. Test different types of paper for opacity, weight, grain direction, structure, and color. Then, select the best materials that suit your project requirements.
Content Collection and Organization Gather all necessary content for your project (e.g., text, images, graphics). Organize the content into logical categories and prioritize it based on importance.
Initial Sketches and Concept Development Sketch your initial ideas by hand, focusing on layout, typography, and design elements. Refine your sketches and develop multiple variations of your concept. Choose the best concepts to take forward.
Digital Design and Iterations Translate your hand-drawn sketches into digital format using design software. Create several iterations of your design, experimenting with different colors, fonts, and layouts. Print each version to evaluate and refine the design.
Prototyping and Final Desing Print and assemble a dummy of your project using the chosen binding method. Evaluate the dummy for functionality, aesthetics, and usability. Make necessary adjustments based on your evaluation. Finalize your design, incorporating any feedback or insights gained from the dummy creation. Ensure all elements are aligned and the design is polished.
Binding and Assembly Print the final project using your selected materials. Bind the project according to your chosen method (e.g., saddle stitch, perfect binding). Lastly, assemble the final product, ensuring quality and durability.
I am curious to see what you come up with. So, don't forget to share your project ant it's process with us on the forum. I'll be sharing some feedback from time to time. In the mean while, I highly encourage you to share some feedback with your fellows. See you soon! ”

Marjolein Delhaas is a graphic designer based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. For over 17 years, she has combined commissioned design work with her own product label, which has become the core of her practice.
