About the final project for: Cartoon-Style Character Portraits with Procreate

Cartoon-Style Character Portraits with Procreate

“Your time has come, it's time to show us your project! Thank you very much for accompanying me throughout this creative process, I hope you have enjoyed it and that you have found inspiration to work on your portrait by following the steps that I have shown you through the lessons. Remember that it is important that you adapt all these processes to your style and that you can take both female and male portraits. Now we are going to review the key phases of the project so that you can share it with the Domestika community. I would like you to briefly explain what you have done in each one and accompany the explanation with one or more images. Inspiration and definition of the project Before starting to sketch, it is important that you clarify concepts and think about what you are going to draw. Find references for the poses, clothing, and accessories in your portrait. Think about whether you want to add some kind of decorative element as a background or if you prefer to keep it as simple as possible. Create a mood board so you can refer to all these ideas quickly when you start to make your sketch.

The sketch The next step is to start working on the sketch. Remember to use the tools and continue with your main idea, which must be reflected in the mood board. Start with a rough sketch and work your way up to the final sketch, which you'll need to clean up so you can use it when you start with the color.
Color thumbnails Working with the thumbnails will help you set the colors for your project. It is important that you make several and play with the combinations to find the one you like the most.
Apply the color Start by creating a base layer for your character. Then add the various elements like hair, clothing, and background on individual layers, and start adding detail using selection and clipping masks.
The final portrait To make your portrait more special, apply a simple ambiance by creating plays of light and shadow using clipping masks and blending modes. Finally, make the final color adjustments to your drawing, apply some effects, and prepare your file to share with the world. Pay attention to file sizes and resolution to avoid getting pixelated. Optionally, you can apply a filter with the Google Snapseed application.
The time has come for you to share your final project with the community by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result of your portrait and the steps that have led you to it. I'm looking forward to seeing your work! Do not forget to record your entire process when you create your project, so when you share it on the forum we can better understand your steps and have a clearer vision of your project. It would also be very enriching if you encouraged and advised the rest of the classmates. I am sure that among the whole community we can create a space in the forum that is safe and inspiring for those who are starting out in illustration and do not yet have the confidence to share their art with the rest of the world. For my part, you will receive advice and I will answer your questions. It is a pleasure to be able to help other artists to improve their technique or simply to be inspired by learning more about my creative process. Thank you very much and see you in the forum! ”
