About the video: A Self-Portrait 1
Overview
“In this lesson, we will go over how to draw a self-portrait using brush pens and chalk pastels. Self-portraits are one of my favorite things to draw. You can learn a lot about the artist through their self-portrait. Their state of mind and being. Their longing, desires, biases, and self-assessment. Their characteristics are shown either implicitly or explicitly, overtly or covertly. You can get a glimpse of vulnerability and transparency or you get a curated, calculated, and modified version of the self. ”
In this video lesson Graceina Samosir addresses the topic: A Self-Portrait 1, which is part of the Domestika online course: Expressive Gesture Drawing and Portraiture. Learn how to illustrate an artistic collage filled with detail and movement by exploring a variety of drawing techniques including charcoal, chalk, and ink.

Three, I have always been fascinated by the idea of alternate versions of me existing, and finally, it allows me to be self-introspective and practice self-awareness. In this lesson, I'll use Chinese ink or Indian ink. I'll also use chalk pastels as an eraser or primer to layer inks on top of one another. This will create more depth, volume, and tone in the drawing. ...”
