Floral Textiles: Make 3D Accessories with Denim

“Thank you so much for taking part in this course and I hope you've enjoyed it. You now know how to make your own 3D textile flowers. Now it's your turn to engage in the creative process! This could mean finishing the flowers you started by completing the course tasks or making a brand-new project! Either way, I strongly suggest you take the time to gather inspiration and make a unique project of your own. Make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It'd be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way and tell us if you have any doubts. This will help me guide you better if you need advice. It would be great if you bring your personality into your flowers. This will make them special. Here are the main steps to follow: Fabric Preparation Select the fabrics for your projects. I used denim. However, it does come in a wide variety of colours, so feel free to pick your favourite! Prepare other supplies and tools and stiffen your fabrics.

Cutting the Flower Parts Trace and cut out all the necessary parts for the project. Make sure you place your templates at 45°. This will ensure better shaping of the petals and leaves at a later stage.
Shaping the Flowers For the rosebud, back, shape, and assemble the branches. For the open wild rose, create the centre with stamens and leave it to dry.
Then, shape the petals with tweezers. This technique needs a bit of practice. Be sure to spend some time working on your petals for an attractive result. Once all the parts of the design are backed and shaped, you're ready for the final assembly.
The Assembly Assemble the roses and leave them to set. Turn the flowers into wearable accessories by finishing them with brooch pins (or other findings of your choice!).
Enjoy your handmade flowers and share the result on the forum! I will be happy to comment on your work and offer advice where needed. Check out the work of your fellow students and encourage them by commenting on what they've shared. Use this opportunity to interact with the creative community. Thanks again for joining my course! See you in the forum. ”

“Thank you for taking my Denim Rose course. I hope you've had a great time and learned some new techniques along the way. Remember, we started with the tools and supplies required for this course. Then we moved on to stiffening the fabrics in preparation for making our roses. Next, I showed you how you could easily create your own templates using flowers from your garden or from a florist. With the templates that I've provided, we cut out the parts and then glued them together and shaped them into 3D shapes. Then it was just a question of assembling all the parts together and turn them into ...”

Svetlana Faulkner is a couture flower accessory artist based in the United Kingdom, in the city of Norwich. Ever since she was a child, she loved making things with her hands. It fascinated her how, by simply using some yarn or fabric, she could create a new item of clothing, seemingly as if by magic. Her great-grandmother taught her basic knitting stitches, which helped her create her clothing when she was a teenager.

She started listing her items for sale on Etsy, which quickly led to a large following. This success inspired her to create her brand PresentPerfect Creations, which has since been featured in a number of magazines in Japan, Australia, and even British Vogue.
