About the final project for: Upcycling for Beginners: Sustainable Fashion Design

Upcycling for Beginners: Sustainable Fashion Design

“Congratulations! You've reached the end of this course. Thank you so much for taking part and I hope you've enjoyed it. It's now time to work on your project. This could mean finishing the garment you started by completing the course tasks or making a brand new project! Either way, I strongly suggest you take the time to gather inspiration and make a unique project of your own. Make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It'd be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way and tell us if you have any doubts. This will help me guide you better if you need advice. Here are the main steps to follow: The Fabrics Choose the fabrics that you want to use for the prototype and the course project. This can be a mixture of prints or just one solid color or pattern that you love. Wash and iron your fabrics before starting the process. If required, make any necessary amendments.

The Pattern Print the pattern that is available to download in this course or plot your own. Start with the prototype as a trial run. Lay out your fabrics flat on a large table or surface. Keep your workstation clear of any mess to make sure you accurately cut your fabric. Follow the guides on your pattern.
Sewing the Prototype Sew the fabric pieces of your prototype together. Then, try it on and consider if you'd like to make any changes, either with the length of the sleeve or body. Make these changes to your pattern.
The Final Garment Once you've finalized your pattern, lay this onto your final fabrics. If you want to engineer the placement of the prints, you will need to strategically place your pattern. When you're happy with the placement, cut out the separate pieces.
To finish, sew the final garment, wear it, and enjoy!
I can't wait to see the project you come up with, so don't forget to share it in the forum. You can do so by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result and the steps that have led you to it. It would be great if you showed a picture of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. I will be more than happy to answer any of the questions you might have along the way! I will try to get back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, participate in the forum, comment on others' work, and interact with the community. See you there! ”

“Final Project Thank you for taking the course, for your curiosity about sustainability, and for trying something new. Let's quickly recap on how we created the fantastic final project. First, you need to go out there and source these incredible materials. Once you found your materials, go ahead and wash them, prepare them by cleaning, mending, or covering up any blemishes. Don't forget to iron before you move on to the next step. Now, go ahead and find your measurement. Refer to the chart and print the pattern that's available to download for you. Starting with a prototype garment, go ahead...”
