Modeling 3D Patterns with Rhino Grasshopper
“During the lessons I taught you all the secrets to modeling with algorithms, now it's your turn! Follow these basic steps to complete your project. Don't just copy my example, but experiment and invent something new. In this way, you will learn to independently apply the techniques I taught you and you will give more space to creativity. • First study Grasshopper's basic interface and logic. • Then, become familiar with the control of essential geometric entities, ie curves and surfaces, in order to manage and manipulate the data lists and selection tools in Grasshopper. • Once you become more confident, you can develop your 3D pattern: first build the two-dimensional pattern and then develop it as a set of three-dimensional surfaces. • Finally, convert the pattern into a 3D printable model giving thickness to the shape and taking care to eliminate any disconnection of the surfaces. Now share your project in the forum! Show everyone both the final result and the processing steps, documenting each step with an image and describing what you did with a brief explanation. As soon as possible, I will be happy to comment on your work. Look at the projects of colleagues and encourage them by commenting on what they have shared: do not miss the precious opportunity to interact with the creative community. Thanks again for making this journey with me! ”

“Our course is over. Thank you for attending my classes. and for joining me on this journey into computational design discovery. During the classes. my goal was to demonstrate how mastering the correct techniques enables creative algorithm usage via Grasshopper. enhancing your problem-solving skills. Algorithms are the language of modern times. Throughout this course. you learned how these techniques can be applied and how they can evolve into powerful tool. achieving results beyond imagination. Your final project can vary greatly in scale. whether it's designing a piece of jewelry or an ent...”

Arturo Tedeschi
A course by Arturo Tedeschi
Arturo Tedeschi is an architect and computational designer who lives and works in Milan. After studying architecture in Naples, he went on to work in multiple architecture and interior design studios. He later discovered algorithmic modeling, which combines his two greatest passions: programming and design.
Driven by his fascination for this branch of modeling, he became a self-taught expert on the subject and even wrote a book about it called Architettura Parametrica – Introduzione a Grasshopper, which has seen success in the form of new editions, a translation into English, and multiple printings. Since then, he's been traveling around Italy sharing his knowledge with students and providing consulting services for businesses, architecture studios, and universities.
