Atmospheric Painting in Procreate: From Concept to Color

“Congratulations! You've reached the end of this course. Thank you so much for taking part and I hope you've enjoyed it. It's now time to work on your project. This could mean finishing the illustration you started by completing the course tasks or making a brand-new project! Either way, I strongly suggest you take the time to gather inspiration and make a unique project of your own. Make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It'd be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way and tell us if you have any doubts. This will help me guide you better if you need advice. Here are the main steps to follow: Thumbnail Sketches Choose your media or scene and create at least 3 sketches (for one scene or for different scenes, you choose!). Keep them loose and rough. Don't focus on the details.

The Sketch Finalize and detail your sketch. Resolve all the questions you have. Treat this as a last step before you finalize your lines in the line drawing.
The Colored Illustration Throw in your colors. I encourage you to make use of the gradient mapping tool in Procreate: start by creating a grayscale image and then apply your palette. Keep checking to ensure the contrast is working as you intended.
The Linework In a new layer, draw your final lines on top of the detailed sketch.
The Final Touches Clean up the rest of the drawing, adding new colors if needed and checking to make sure the composition is balanced. Then, in a new layer, add the textures or highlights needed to enhance the illustration.
And that's all! I can't wait to see the project you come up with, so don't forget to share it in the forum. You can do so by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result and the steps that have led you to it. It would be great if you showed a picture of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. I will be more than happy to answer any of the questions you might have along the way! I will try to get back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, participate in the forum, comment on others' work, and interact with the community. See you there! ”

“ Final Project Once again, I want to thank you for taking this course. As a final reminder, be sure to take your time because patience is your friend. Don't forget to take as many reference pictures as you can even on your iPad, or anything that's on Pinterest, or any of those websites that I talked about earlier. As for color palette, remember that sometimes less is more. Experiment with monochromatic, complementary, and analogous colors too. While you do that, be mindful of brightness and contrast along the whole way. Flipping your canvas can also solve many problems. You'll spot mistake...”
