About the final project for: Watercolor Techniques for Comic Book Covers

Watercolor Techniques for Comic Book Covers

“Thank you for joining me on this journey; I hope that I have provided the fundamentals and methodology for you to take the concepts of this piece and apply them to your comic cover and art. Now it's your time to share your course project, but first, let me show you an example of how I would like to see it: The Concept Create and draw a series of concepts to determine the layout for your final painting. Choose a concept for the final artwork.

The Value Studies Create a value study in pencil and analyze the planes, light, and shadow to plan the use of color and the configuration of the planes in the scene. Follow it with a color study for further clarification.
Transferring and Painting First, transfer the images and work on the character and then on the background, keeping in mind that you are creating the tones for the shadows and the hue for highlights on the page. Remember to use your value studies as a reference to preserving the whitespace on the final.
The Last Washes After identifying the shadows and highlights, focus on painting the midtones. This is where the color of our objects exists. Lastly, add some final glazes and intense value colors like Payne’s Gray or Lamp Black, working in blocks of color, to finish defining the scene's atmosphere and tighten up the details in your final project. Take your time and use your studies to guide you.
While doing your project, keep in mind that slow and steady wins the race! Don't be afraid to experiment and use new techniques to create different effects on your paintings. Share your project by clicking on "Create your project"! I would love to see what you've created. Remember to share a picture of each step and briefly explain what you have done in each one. I also encourage you to give feedback to other students, compare ideas, and share things you may have learned. See you soon! ”

Watercolor is a challenging medium and you will improve as you practice. I always tell novice artists beginning on this watercolor journey to be patient and have faith. You never know until the very end what can happen. Waiting for a piece to dry, you le...”
