About the final project for: Mindful Painting with India Ink

Mindful Painting with India Ink

“We have come to the end of my course. Thank you for participating! I hope you were able to take a lot with you from this course, not only artistically but also mentally. You can use the drawing technique you have learned here as a meditation exercise as often as you like to calm down and keep your focus. Dedicate yourself to your project and create an expressive portrait with ink and calligraphy materials. Maybe your picture is already finished or maybe you still have to finish it. You could even start a new project. In any case, I would like to remind you to take photos of the different stages of your work to show the whole process. Here is a quick recap of the steps you need to follow to create the course project: Observe the subject Look at your chosen picture calmly and with a lot of inner clarity. Analyze which elements catch your attention and which are in the abstraction area, then set the focus on the subject.

Sketch the subject Create the sketch of the portrait, first a rough plan while adhering to the set focus. Think about where and how you can work with ink and pen. Don't go into detail on this step, though.
use ink and pencils With ink, water, calligraphy pens and a pointed and flat calligraphy brush, you paint shadows and points of light and thus begin to design the portrait.
insert details Work on the details and areas of contrast. With the pencils you can highlight details on the face and define the contours. Don't forget to take breaks in between!
improvise Make some improvised touches to give your picture an individual expression and see the result. Consider if the portrait is complete or if something is missing to express the emotion more clearly. When you're happy with the painting, it's done for you - try to stop painting in time so as not to go too far.
Now I'm excited to see how you did your portrait! Once you're done, upload it to the forum. Simply click on "Create your project". Use the forum to ask questions about the process, connect with other course participants, and find more inspiration. Of course I will also be there and give you feedback and advice. Drink tea, relax and draw! ”

Zou Wei lives in Munich and is an architect in the corporate sector. She is also invested in her own creative projects, especially freehand drawing. Growing up in China, she has been involved with traditional ink painting since she was a child, and while studying architecture, sketching became a habit for her. These two experiences formed the basis for the development of her own style. She is particularly fascinated by the infinite range of detail and abstract qualities offered by the combination of ink, water, and calligraphy pencils.

Through the practice of drawing, Zou performs a conscious exercise that allows her to quiet the distractions of everyday life and strengthen her inner voice. Her approach is guided by the principles of Zen Buddhism: simplicity, spontaneity, and self-expression, which shape her attitude and, in turn, her brushwork. Through her drawing practice, she has learned to find clarity in everyday life, to make decisions courageously, to maintain focus, and to act decisively.
