“ The Macramé Base: Starting to Knot Now I nearly finished the X shape and I'll just tie two more clove hitches on each side. Before we continue, we'll check that our X shape looks perfect. For this part, I'm using my forceps again. I'll check that my lines are straight. If I see a cord that is too loose, I'll find that knot, and tighten it like this. You want to make sure that the ends of your X are just above the bottom of this square knot. On this side, I want to lower it just a bit. I do that by pulling on the cords... to lower the whole row.
