About the final project for: Sumi-e Painting with Color for Floral Illustrations

Sumi-e Painting with Color for Floral Illustrations

“Congratulations! You have completed this Domestika course. I hope you've enjoyed walking through my creative process. By using the ideas and guidance I have given you throughout this course, you're now free to go ahead with your own composition using all the techniques we have covered. This could mean finishing what you started while completing the course tasks, or you could begin a brand new project! Either way, I strongly suggest you take the time to gather inspiration and make a unique piece of your own. Make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It'd be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way and tell me if you have any doubts. This will help me understand your creative process and guide you better if you need advice. Let's revisit the necessary steps to complete your project! Firstly, choose the subject of your painting and start with a few pencil sketches. You can stick to the flowers we covered, or challenge yourself with a new flower or fruit.

Next, map out the composition of your choice. Keep it simple to start with, and focus more on developing your techniques. After deciding on your composition, practise the various elements of the painting in isolation, whether that be the petals, the leaves, or the twigs. Here, you may want to play around with the different ink effects. You may choose to use Senbyouhou, Tsuketatehou, or both.
Revisit the techniques we covered - the use of different ink tones and gradations and the control of speed and rhythm - and see how you can incorporate them into your final piece. Once you are comfortable with each element, bring them together and practise the painting as a whole. As a final step, you may decide to add colour if you wish.
I can't wait to see the composition you painted, so don't forget to share it in the forum. You can do so by clicking on 'Create your project'. I'll be more than happy to answer any of the questions you might have along the way! I'll try getting back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, participate in the forum, comment on others' work, and interact with the community! See you there.”

“ Final Project Now, we have reached the final lesson. I want to thank you for taking my second course. Remember, the beauty of the Sumi-e painting. Enjoy the process of creation and channel the deep connection between you and nature. For the final project, I would like to challenge you to create your own artworks using the techniques I've shown. First, decide on the subject of your painting. You can paint one of the flowers we covered, or even better, paint a new flower or new fruit of your choice. Begin creating a few sketches and next map out the composition of your choice. I would advis...”
