About the final project for: Analog-Style Digital Illustration with Procreate

Analog-Style Digital Illustration with Procreate

“Congratulations! You have reached the end of this Domestika course. Thank you so much for taking part; it was super fun sharing my process with you! I hope you learned something new and enjoyed it as much as I did. Now it's your turn to complete your project! This could mean finishing the illustration you started by completing the course tasks or making a brand-new project! Either way, I strongly suggest you take the time to gather inspiration, pick your own theme, and create something unique and personal. Here are a few important tips for you to get started working on your retro-inspired travel poster: • Don’t be afraid to play and mix a myriad of styles in one piece. • Get your hands dirty and get off the computer. • Love your final sketch—do as many sketches as you need until you're happy with it. • Show restraint—don't go overboard and don't lose your artwork. • Add a bit of you into your artwork. As a reminder, I've summarized the main steps you should follow to complete your project. Make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It'd be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way. Found textures Make your own custom textures using objects around your home or office. Then grab your camera and take pictures of textured surfaces in the room or outside. Using the textures you made by hand and photographed, make custom brushes in the Procreate Brush Studio.

Brainstorming Brainstorm some ideas of what you want to depict and include in your poster design. Pick your own city, state, country, or favorite place! Make it yours! You can make a word list on your canvas, do some research on what you could include in your poster, and save reference images. Composition and sketching Sketch out at least 3 different concepts for your poster design. Try to sketch from the top of your head first, and then, to expand your ideas, or if you get stuck, look up travel poster examples.
Chose one composition and clean up your sketch. When cleaning up your illustration, you can use the reference images you saved. To see if the overall composition is balanced and the contrast is right, block in the main shapes working in greyscale.
Colors Create your own custom color palette and apply it to your artwork. You can look at existing color palettes that fit the look you want to mimic in your poster, and then adjust from there.
The analog look To change the digital look of your illustration—clean edges and solid fields of color—apply the different techniques you've learned and make it look more authentic and less perfect. Incorporate the textures you created, more paint, and brush marks and finish up your artwork.
The last details Make some final tweaks to your finished artwork to make it look like a printed or aged poster. Experiment with different tools in the Procreate adjustment panel and try out the techniques I've shown you.
And last but not least, remember to share your work! Share with friends and family, but also with me and your colleagues in the forum. You can do so by clicking on "Create your project". I can't wait to see the amazing things you will come up with that only you can create. Domestika has a great community, where we are all looking to grow and learn! So share your process, ideas, doubts, and every step of your project. I will be around to answer any questions you might have. See you there! ”

“ Final Project Hey students, we've reached the end of our course. I enjoyed sharing my process with you and I hope it was helpful and you enjoyed it as much as I did. As I promised, here are a few important tips that can help you on your final project. First, don't be afraid to play and experiment with a myriad of different styles. That's fine. As you're exploring and testing out new textures and methods, it's OK to use all of those in one project and see what you like. Who knows, you might come up with something awesome. Second, get your hands dirty and step away from the screen every so ...”
