“Gouache: Basic Techniques For this lesson, you'll want to paint a page of watercolor backgrounds to work over with gouache. These don't need to be anything specific. They can be quite smooth. You will use these to try gouache over the top. What we'll do first is look at the different consistencies that we can use gouache. We'll see how they behave over the watercolor background. For this, I'll mix up a dark blue color. This will be easily visible over the background. I suggest that you do this when you try out these techniques. Years later, she found inspiration from the show The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross, and once her artistic fire had been rekindled, Ruth was determined to explore painting once more, first with other mediums such as charcoal and watercolor before finally falling in love with gouache.
Since then, after amassing a large Instagram following of over 100K, she has established a full-time career and written the book Creative Gouache and continues to share her work and processes on social media.
