“If we want to visualize an audio source, we need the audio data. And for that, we'll need the Web Audio API. The Web Audio API has at least one concept in common with the Canvas API, which is that it also has a context. We've been using our rendering2D context to do all the drawing, and we're going to need an audio context for anything to do with sound. The way it works is with nodes, as we can see on this graphic.
