About the final project for: Chalkboard Art for Beginners

Lettering and Illustration for Blackboard Art

“Congratulations! You have reached the end of this Domestika course. Thank you so much for enrolling. It's been a true honour to share my passion and craft with you. I hope I have inspired you to create something amazing for your home or even pursue your career aspirations. By mastering the skills I taught you, you will develop the confidence to approach local businesses and offer them your services! Regardless of whether you use your lettering skills professionally or as a hobby, I hope that this course has inspired you to engage with this craft more often. It’s important to keep hand-craft alive, especially in the modern world where everything is digital. Before saying goodbye, let's review the necessary steps to complete your project. Don't forget that for the best results, always focus on one thing at a time from start to finish. The Mood Board The first step in the creative process is to collect references. Consider your influences, then create a mood board. Note down some words or sentences that you’re interested in drawing. You can follow my example as a guide. But remember, this is your bespoke blackboard mural. Don't let it be a replica of mine. Think about what inspires you. If you feel passionate about an environmental cause or even a sport you play, base your piece on that. The beauty of it is, it really can be anything. It will be in your home or studio. Let it be a talking point when people see it!

The Rough Sketch Once you've completed your mood board and planned out the main and supporting quotes, the next step is to choose your final quotes and create a rough sketch. Use a pen or pencil and an A4 sketchbook to do this.
Prepare the Blackboard It's time to prep your blackboard wall! Use a dust sheet, roller, Rustins quick dry blackboard paint, and a hairdryer to adequately prepare the surface of the wall. Once the wall is dry, refer to your rough sketch and outline the design onto the blackboard, using a white wax supracolour pencil or chalk, spirit level, and tape measure. I recommend taping your sketch nearby. Then, you can easily refer to it throughout the process. This will keep you on the right track! Once you’ve done that, outline your letters and illustrations with one of the MOLOTOW™ paint pens.
Filling In the Letters Once you’ve finished the outlines, it's time to fill the letters in! Use the MOLOTOW™ chisel tip, broad tip, and some other brushes. Take your time with this and double-coat the letters. Maybe try experimenting with some distressed techniques. Don't forget that the purpose of this craft is to also have fun, be playful with your style!
The Finishing Touches Finally, refine your piece. Use a couple of colours to make any final adjustments to the illustrations. Create shadows for the words, if it suits your aesthetic. Then, use a black paint pen to refine the letters and tweak anything that needs attention. Once you’ve finished that, job done!
I can't wait to see what fantastic work you create. When you feel that your project is ready to be reviewed, click on 'Create your project' and upload it. You can share your project with all of us by clicking on 'Create your project'. Remember to share both the final result and the steps that have led you to it. It would be great if you showed a picture of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. I will try my best to check into the forum as much as possible. But in the meantime, don't be afraid to interact with your peers. Take a look at their projects, and discuss how you found the creative process. I'm sure that we all have a lot to learn from each other! As a final piece of advice, always remember that patience is key. If you plan to decorate your living or working space with this piece, it will be something that you look at every day. So make sure you’re happy with it! All the best and see you in the forum! ”

“ Final Project We've arrived at the end of this Domestika course. I'd like to congratulate you on everything you've achieved. In this final lesson, we'll do a recap of what you learned and I'll give you some advice on how to do your final project. The beauty of a freehand blackboard mural is it's a freehand approach and there's no right or wrong way. You can create pieces that are an expression of something you're passionate about. First, create a mood board and gather references for inspiration. Sketch your design roughly on paper first, which includes your quotes and illustration. This w...”
