About the final project for: Pop Art Screen Printing for Vibrant Portraits

Pop Art Screen Printing for Vibrant Portraits

“Congratulations. You have reached the end of this Domestika course. Thank you for choosing me to lead you through the world of screen printing. It's time to work on your project: this could mean finishing the work you started while completing the exercises, or you could start a brand new project. Either way, I strongly suggest you take the time to gather inspiration and make a unique project of your own. Here are the steps to follow: Choose the image you want to make into a screen-printed poster. Make sure you clean up the image of any background in Photoshop and turn it into a halftone pattern.

Bring the halftone image into Illustrator; figure out which part of the image you want to color in and the color palette.
Print out your halftone image onto transparency film.
Coat the screen and burn your halftone image onto it. Then, let it dry and set the screen aside.
Work on variations by coloring the isolated parts of the portrait and get them print-ready.
Prepare your workstation by adding the hinges to the wood panel and adding a liner to your panel. Get the variations ready to be printed by registering transparency and screen.
Print the background and portrait on your paper.
Wash out your screen and reclaim it. Now, you can share your project with all of us by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result and the steps that have led you to it. It would be great if you showed a picture of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. This will help me understand your creative process and guide you better if you need advice. I will try my best to engage with your posts as often as I can. But, I also encourage you to help and give advice to other students in this course—working together can be very helpful and inspiring. See you in the forum.”

“ Final Project You made it. You should be proud of yourself. We're at the end of the course. In this lesson, we'll recap and give you screen printing tips to help you going forward. For printing at home, you want to use water-based inks. The reason we use water-based inks is because the ink air dries and it's easier to clean up after use. You shouldn't use plastisol ink because plastisol has to be cured at over 300 degrees. Also, it's used for large-scale t-shirt production. There are also household items that can make your life easier. You can use small pieces of cardboard to elevate the ...”
