With the sketchbook it is important to choose one that has a relatively high grammage, maybe 160 - 170 grams. Then you can use different materials, i.e. ink, fineliner, pencil, even draw in watercolor, without it breaking through. I also think it's important to always have the sketchbook with you, even if you don't intend to draw in the sketchbook. Always have it with you.
