About the final project for: Cover Art Illustration with Pencil, Ink, and Digital Painting

Cover Art Illustration with Pencil, Ink, and Digital Painting

“Congratulations! You have reached the end of this course. Thank you so much for taking part and I hope you've enjoyed it. It's now time to work on your project. This could mean finishing the drawing you started by completing the course tasks or making a brand-new project! Either way, I strongly suggest you take the time to gather inspiration and make a unique project of your own. Make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It'd be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way and tell us if you have any doubts. This will help me guide you better if you need advice. Here are the main steps to follow: Inspiration Look for references that appeal to you and then identify what it is that you like about them, whether that's the composition, colour palette, or other elements. Lay them out in a mood board that you can refer back to. The Procreate Sketch Start sketching out ideas until you find the one that works for you. Working digitally is beneficial for changing things quickly.

When colour planning, keep in mind that it's not the final image. Play with the hues and find a good balance of color by looking at your references.
The Analogue Sketch Pencil and ink the final sketch. When pencilling, remember to start softly. This way, you won't need to erase and start over all the time. The finer details of your sketch can be refined later on.
Once you're happy with your initial layer of pencil markings, go over the lines with a brush and nib. Don't forget to layer the washes from light to dark. Lay down a few practice lines on a separate piece of paper to check how the ink dries.
The Digital Sketch Refine the sketch in Photoshop. As you experiment with different brushes and tools, remember to use layers and clipping masks to retain a non-destructive workflow.
The Final Touches Heighten the contrast, depth, and impact of your image by playing around with adjustment layers and incorporating different textures. You can use your own textures or download the versions I created in this course. I recommend creating personalised textures that will suit the tone of your piece. Try not to skip this step – overlaying textures will really imbue your piece with an organic and traditional feel.
And that's all! I can't wait to see the project you come up with, so don't forget to share it in the forum. You can do so by clicking on 'Create your project'. Remember to share both the final result and the steps that have led you to it. It would be great if you showed a picture of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. I will be more than happy to answer any of the questions you might have along the way! I will try to get back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, participate in the forum, comment on others' work, and interact with the community. See you there! ”
