About the final project for: Pattern Cutting: Create Classic Tailored Trousers

Pattern Cutting: Create Classic Tailored Trousers

“Congratulations! You've reached the end of this Domestika course. Thank you so much for enrolling and I hope you've enjoyed learning about how to make your own garments. Before saying goodbye, let's review the necessary steps to complete your project: a pair of classic trousers. Mastering the Techniques Start by familiarising yourself with the basic pattern techniques that I covered in this course. Learn how to make darts and create fluid curves with a pattern master. Acquaint yourself with the sewing machine by practising important stitches like the zigzag stitch. Finding Inspiration Create a mood board on Pinterest to gather inspiration for your piece. Choose something that both inspires you and suits your body shape. Remember, for this project, you will need to channel your creativity to produce a garment that's personal to you, so select a style that excites you! Once you have a design in mind, collect your measurements and fill out the Drafting Calculations Chart. Creating the Block Pattern Now, transfer your measurements to the trouser block. Use the resources I shared in the unit 'Making the Block Pattern' to guide you. Create the toile to further refine these measurements and adapt your block accordingly. Then, turn your block into a pattern with a 1 cm seam allowance and all the necessary details. When cutting the calico, don't forget to cut inside the line that you've drawn. If you cut outside, you will add millimetres to the pattern. It's important to get these details correct, or the garment won't hang well.

Making the Classic Trousers Next, sew everything together. This includes the darts, pockets, fly front, legs, and waistband. Remember to neaten the raw edges of your fabric to ease the stitching process. Once done, add the button.
Adding Extra Details With the trousers complete, you now have the option to add additional details. If you like, you can imitate my process by adding five overhanging belt loops and a back pocket. Embellish your design as you see fit. These are your trousers, so make them unique to you. Experiment, be playful, and have fun!
I can't wait to see what incredible garments you produce! You can share your project with all of us by clicking on 'Create your project'. Remember to share both the final result and the steps that have led you to it. It would be great if you showed a picture of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. Then, I can give you feedback. See you there!”

“We've now come to the end of the course, and I'd like to thank you for joining me. I hope you've enjoyed it. When you embark on your final project, it's a really good idea to try and make it your own. And you can do this by possibly following the instructions for adding the belt loops, all the back pockets. even widening the leg if you so wish. Don't forget to share your creations on the forum. because I'll be there from time to time just having a look at what you're doing. And you can share things with other students as well and compare what you're doing. To begin with, I showed you how to...”
