About the video: About Me
Overview
“As a visual artist, I have worked for well over 35 years drawing every imaginable subject, but most of that was done digitally. When I finally decided to go back to my roots and draw on paper, I bought some color markers, fineliners, and a sketchbook. What started out simply as “going back to the traditional craft” soon developed into my recognizable work as Housesketcher. Here I'll tell you all about this journey.”
In this video lesson Albert Kiefer addresses the topic: About Me, which is part of the Domestika online course: Expressive Architectural Sketching with Colored Markers. Learn to create expressive sketches of buildings and landscapes filled with color and practice drawing by hand.
Partial transcription of the video
“ About Me Hi, my name is Albert Kiefer but you may know me as House Sketcher. Welcome to my course. I live in the small town of Venlo, which is a city near the border with Germany. That is handy because that means I can speak three languages, which is something that grew. When I was a small kid, we only had two TV stations and the rest were German stations, which were near the border. I picked up German from that because they synchronized every television show and I could only hear the German part. I learned German quickly that way. Now, I speak German, English, and Dutch. I'm a freelancer...”

Albert Kiefer
A course by Albert Kiefer
Digital visualization artist Albert Kiefer enjoyed drawing from a young age, taking inspiration from what he saw on TV to create fantastical alien spacecraft and superhero suits. He studied drawing and art history at the Maastricht Institute of Arts and, after graduating, began working at a computer graphics firm, where he learned techniques like 3D modeling and rendering. With over 35 years of experience, he now works as a freelancer in the field of visualization, taking ideas and concepts and transforming them into pictures or animations.
Albert later began to miss more traditional art forms and returned to his love for sketching. As the years passed, his style evolved into the expressive and colorful one that we see today. He has published Au Japon!, a collection of sketches of Japanese buildings, and created a series of workshop videos for Gerstaecker. He also showcases his work on his website and social media under the name Housesketcher.
