So you might be wondering what some of the differences are between a swash and a flourish. Well this is actually an interesting point and it's something that I've never been able to find an official definition for or an explanation that is satisfactory. Even looking up on Wikipedia, for example, that wasn't too helpful either because I think it describes a swash as a typographical flourish.
