Speech Writing: Find the Storyteller in You
“Thank you so much for taking my course. I hope you have found it inspiring. For your course project, you will write a 500 to 1,000-word speech that incorporates all the elements of storytelling in speech writing you have learned from the course modules. I highly recommend you start by preparing the outline. Note your process by outlining: - The audience, subject matter, and platform. - Key notes from your research on your subject matter. - Your speech’s intended outcome. - The heart/hook. Then, create a brief story map and a paragraph map. Once this is done, write the first introduction of your speech in 100 words. You may choose to open with a quote, an address to the audience, or lay the foundation for your anecdote in this section. Next, write at least one paragraph in which you incorporate facts into an anecdote to tell an engaging story. This should lay a foundation for the heart of your speech. Last but not least, write one or two paragraphs that revolve around the heart of your speech. Then, write the closing paragraph of your speech in a way that encapsulates your key points and leaves your audience with either a key takeaway or a core ask. Finally, read all paragraphs aloud before a mirror or have someone read them to you, then edit. Upload the video of your speech and your process! When you feel that your project is ready for me to review, click on “Create your project” and upload it. I will be giving you feedback as soon as I can. While you wait, I encourage you to share some tips, tricks, and feedback with your coursemates. I can’t wait to see what you have created. See you soon!”
