Since 2008, she has published several books throughout Spain, Italy, France, the United States, England, and Latin America, and her texts have been translated into several languages. She has also received recognition for her work, including the Purple Island Award at the Nami Island International Picture Book Illustrations Concours in South Korea for her book Color Animal. This same book was also named one of the top 20 children's books of 2015 by Fundación La Fuente and was selected to represent Chile at the BIB Biennale in Bratislava.

Maya also teaches classes and workshops at various universities and book fairs around the world, and her paintings and collages have been exhibited both in her native Chile and abroad.
