A course by Sophie Graney
Sophie Graney is a textile designer who creates contemporary hand-woven fabrics for lifestyle accessories and interior furnishings. As a child, she was drawn to knitting, sewing, and lacemaking, learning techniques that still influence her work today. This love for textiles led her to study textile design at the Hereford College of Arts and a master’s in woven textiles at the Royal College of Art, London. At university, she began selling her designs to Banana Republic and Calvin Klein, and Dash & Miller featured her creations at international trade shows.
After beginning her career in the fashion industry, using techniques for mass-production, she now designs and weaves by hand, slowing down the process and celebrating the craftsmanship. She works from her studio at Cockpit Arts, which was granted to her as part of the Clothworkers' Foundation Award, and shares her work on her website and social media.
