Modern Photography in Nature: Fundamentals and Techniques
“We have now come to the end of the course! I want to thank you for your time and I hope you learned something new or deepened the knowledge you already had. Your project starts here! Your task is to create a series of pictures of nature that deals with a coherent theme or tells a story. I would like to briefly summarize the most important steps for you.
- First of all, it is important that you really get to know your camera. Experiment with different settings and create your own menu for quick access to certain functions. Familiarizing yourself with the exposure triangle and various compositional rules will also help you create exciting images.

- In order to structure your work and ultimately come up with a coherent whole that expresses your very own visual language, you must first be clear about what you actually like and what evokes an emotional reaction in you. Look inside yourself: what moves you? Which stories are close to you and would you like to tell?

- Once you've found your inspiration and thought about a concept for your photo series, you start looking for a suitable location - and then you can start taking pictures!

- I advise you to think about what you would like to photograph in advance. This will help you find motives and get in the mood from the start. Of course, you can also simply let yourself be carried away by your impressions! Be sure to experiment with different perspectives, compositional options, and light.
- Then you make your photo selection and edit your images first in Lightroom Classic and, if necessary, in Photoshop to give the final touches. Above all, evaluate the color contrasts, shadows, curves and exposure depending on what you want to emphasize in your picture.

At the very end, I would like to give you some tips on how to which I would have liked to hear back then. The first tip would be: It's best if you don't really limit yourself at all. Try experimenting as much as you like, at your pace. Just do what you feel like doing. There aren't really any rules in photography. Second, I would give you the well-known tip "Measure twice, cut once" type in your preparation. It is be...”

Michael Schauer
A course by Michael Schauer
Michael Schauer is a nature and landscape photographer from Munich, Germany. After studying sociology and philosophy, he discovered that photography was his preferred outlet for creative expression. His images are the result of a meditative approach where he allows external influences to blend with his inner world. For the past several years, he's been traveling, primarily through Scandinavia and Iceland, in search of peaceful forests and frozen landscapes for his photos.
Through practice and experience, he gradually honed his skills and developed a unique personal style, which has caught the eye of clients like Adobe, Nikon, Bentley, and a host of travel and tourism organizations. His work was displayed in Munich in 2017 and again in 2019, the same year he published a practical guide on drone photography titled Fotografieren mit Drohnen.
