“ Illustrations That Frame the Page Now, I'll add water to paint my illustration. I'll use this size of brush for my blocking. I'm blocking in to create the contrast. If I use the tiny brush, it wouldn't blend and flow. If you use a bigger brush, you can create this feeling of the colours merging. I also won't use too much water while doing this because, as I said, I'm using a journal with thinner paper. This is one of the techniques I've adapted to make it work with my journal of choice. She studied graphic design at university in her home country of Scotland, but Annie never went on to work in graphic design roles and instead chose to pursue her love of painting and traditional illustration. In 2017 she discovered bullet journaling by chance on Instagram, and fell in love with the activity. So much so that in 2018 Annie started her first ‘proper’ bullet journal and created her Instagram account @ajournalbyannie to share her journaling online.
It wasn’t long before brands and potential clients began noticing her work and she was able to turn A Journal by Annie into a business. She has collaborated with various brands and publications including Rescue Remedy, My Life Handmade, Gaston Luga, and Simply Lettering Magazine. As well as this Annie also sells her artwork and products online.
