Introduction to Gouache: A Chromatic Journey to Japan

“Thank you very much for taking this course with me! I loved spending this time with you. I have given you lots of tips and advice. I really hope this helps you. I invite you to watch the lessons several times to assimilate all the information that I am giving you. This is also learning: time and discipline. The exercises and resources I offer are here to train you, because watching the video is a great start, but practice is essential if you want to progress! Now do yourself a favor and start painting your final project. Here I give you some final tips before you start. Take care to document all the stages of your creation. I would like to see it in the presentation of your project. Find inspiration First, choose a topic and collect the pictures that will help you format it. You can find inspiration around you. Remember, there is no such thing as a bad idea, just like there are no bad colors. There is simply your desire to communicate a story that will find itself sublimated on paper once you have developed it. Tell us this story! Colors Go in search of colors! Use your own color chart or create a new one using colors from an illustration or image you like. If you do this, don't forget to show us the image you used.

The drawing To work on the sketch, you can layer different elements of the images you have selected and position them as you prefer. You do not have to reproduce these elements as is, but you can simply follow the overall strokes and outlines. Once this sketch is carried over to the drawing paper, you can get started in color and painting.
Painting For painting, again, I advise you to start with the more difficult details. For example, faces and small interior elements. It would be too bad to have to start all over again if you make a wrong move.
Then you can go serenely to filling plan by plan. Remember to unwind: from light colors to the darkest colors. You can finally finish with the finishes and the very small details in the foreground by tracing them with the tip of the brush.
I invite you to share your creation with the community! I can't wait to see what you produce. Please feel free to offer us your own interpretation of what you have learned in this course. Me, I took you to Japan, but I hope you will transport me in your turn to the many universes that inspire you. I remain at your side to answer your questions and doubts. Be patient if this can sometimes take a long time. I therefore invite you to discuss and also interact with your comrades, and comment on their project. I look forward to seeing you on the forum! See you soon !! ”

“Final project Thank you very much for doing this Domestika course with me. I've loved to spend this time with you. For the moment, enjoy and throw yourselves into painting. I'll give you some final advice before beginning. Find inspiration around you and put into your illustrations. Once you've drawn it on paper, you'll be able to proceed with color and paint. And remember! Bad ideas or bad colors don't exist, there is only your desire to tell a story which will be exalted once you've elaborated it. Once again, for painting, I advise you to begin with the most difficult details. For example...”
