About the final project for: Introduction to Photo Embroidery: Create Images with Texture

Introduction to Photo Embroidery: Create Images with Texture

“We have reached the end of this course. I want to thank you so much for coming this far with me! I trust that you will be able to apply what you have learned in any image that you propose. I hope that the course has activated in you a curiosity about embroidery, materials, patterns and images. Always remember to start your projects with clean hands and do a little planning with tests before working on your final image so that you become familiar with the material first. It is not necessary to buy new materials, you can look around you and you will realize that you already have everything you need to start. Do not break your head so much looking for or making the perfect image, practice always starts with the simple and the more images you border, the more new ideas you will come up with. I love intervening images that already exist, it is not necessary to be a professional photographer or have a high quality print. You can use old photographs, postcards, archive material, magazines, books... Any paper that you find attractive and suitable for embroidery. Before we say goodbye, let's review the key phases of the project. It would be great if you briefly explain what you have done in each one and accompany the explanation with one or more images. Photography and materials Find an image or photograph to make your project. Do not run to buy anything without first looking around you what you have available. Anyway, in the additional resources for Unit 2, I left you tips to help you find an image for your project.

Also collect the materials you will need to carry out your final project.
Color Palette Make tests and sketches to make the decision. Then, choose the color palette based on the image on which you are going to intervene.
Composition Using the rule of thirds, as I showed you in Unit 2, analyze the composition of your image and decide which aspects you would like to highlight or hide and which thread colors to use in each part. In my photo, the subject of attention, for example, is the person who appears in the corner of the photo.
Pierced and embroidered Punch the photo following the advice I gave you in Unit 4. You can do tests on other photos before operating on the project photo. Then comes the moment of truth, let's embroider! In my case, I have taken the opportunity to use the different types of stitches that I taught you in Unit 3.
After finishing the embroidery, if you want, you can mount the photo. In Unit 4's "Assembly" lesson, I showed you several possibilities. Now share your final project with all of us by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result of your photo embroidery and the steps that have led you to it. Embroidery is a very noble tool that only requires a little patience and practice, you will realize how little by little you begin to do it faster and better. Remember that nobody sees the world the way you do and that makes you have a unique angle, so use what you have learned and adapt it to your own style. Trust your vision to create unique pieces! I am looking forward to seeing your project and giving you feedback. Although I ask for your patience, I will try to access the forum as much as I can and what my professional projects allow me. Finally, I want to invite you to actively participate in the forum, not only sharing your progress, but also giving advice and trying to help the rest of the community. It sure is very enriching! See you on the forum!”

Textile Art Workshop

Ofelia & Antelmo is a project created by Gabriela Martínez—designer and textile artist—in 2017 that started out as a contemporary textile art proposal presented in two formats that go hand in hand: textile art and wearable art.

Textile art is the starting point of Gabriela's process, in which she explores all her ideas for colors, textures, stitches, and effects, then seeks to bring them to life in handmade garments with wear-resistant finishes and stitches. Her main motivation is that quality prevails over quantity, and so she creates pieces that can be inherited as a form of protest at the speed at which the world moves today.
