Needle Embroidery: Create a Natural Composition

“You have come to the end of this course! Thank you for choosing it. I hope you liked it and that, if you are new to embroidery, I was able to pass on some of my passion to you and make you want to continue. Now is the time to prepare your final project. First of all, try to create a project that looks like you. Embroidery is a long technique and, depending on the format you choose, your project can take a few hours to complete, like a few days. This is the whole point of working with colors and shapes that appeal to you, speak to you and look like you! To help you, I leave you a summary of the different steps to follow below. Take care to document all the stages of your creation. I would like to see it in the presentation of your project. It will also allow me to better assist you if you have any questions. Choice of visual Choose visuals that appeal to you, to inspire the choice of your plant motifs, and select them one by one. Then draw (on a tablet or by hand) a composition that will present the patterns you have isolated. Print it in the format you want.

Choice of subjects Choose your materials and colors: take the time to choose a fabric with a texture and color you like, and do the same for your yarn choices. This will create a range that really looks like you.
If that can help you, I suggest that you also create a support (notebook type that you can keep preciously for your next creative projects) where you can archive your research, patterns, ranges, samples, etc. On your printed pattern, you can annotate indications of colors, stitches to be made, the order in which you are going to embroider. You might as well do it on instinct. There is no right or wrong way! Embroider After having transposed your pattern onto the fabric (either using carbon paper or with a light tablet), you can move on to embroidery!
Embroider your composition by taking inspiration from the stitches that I suggested to you and on which we practiced together: the front and back stitches, the chain stitches, the free stitches and the satin stitch stitches.
Once your embroidery is finished, you can either make finishes for a finished presentation in the drum, or apply it to the accessory or garment of your choice! Share your work Finally, take the time to take a picture of your creation and, above all, share it with us on the forum. Looking forward to discovering your jungle!
I invite you to share with me on the forum your questions and needs for clarification. I will be happy to help you, step by step, and especially to see how you have appropriated this lesson that I took great pleasure in sharing with you. If you also want to share your photos on Instagram, do not forget me tagg @zeliasmith_ and the account @domestika , and use the hashtag #ZeliaSmithDomestika so I could see your photo! A big thank you and see you soon!”

“Final project Thank you for choosing my course. I hope you liked it and that if you are beginners or beginners in embroidery, I managed to transmit my passion to you and that I made you want to get started. I started by telling you about the journey that brought me to be today a craftswoman of thread and embroidery. To get there, I have been inspired and influenced by many artists. I introduced you to the main ones, including the Douanier Rousseau, which has had a major influence in my work. Then I presented you with all the material you will need to make your embroidered composition on the...”

Since she was a little girl, Zélia Smith has been drawn to those pieces of embroidered fabric found at the bottom of a box at a garage sale. It was therefore quite natural that she would go on to study applied arts related to the fashion and textile trades. Her fascination with the stage led her to become a costume designer for national theaters and opera houses.

Despite her academic training, she likes to steer away from perfection to create exactly what she imagines in her mind's eye. In 2015, she launched an Instagram account dedicated to her small embroidered creations and quickly achieved great success. She then opened her own workshop and published a book on hand embroidery: Jungle Broderie, published by Marabout/Hachette.
