Susana Domínguez -artist dedicated to the design of artistic binding- uses the art of bookbinding to create unique works; the artisan techniques that it applies become the perfect process to bind publications with a special value such as artist's books. Her work has been awarded in several countries (in Spain she was awarded the National Prize for Artistic Binding in 2017) and since 2006, she has headed up Códex with her partner Guadalupe Roldán, a study that has become an international reference in the artistic binding and from which he seeks a way to make bookbinding something contemporary and accessible.

Susana's work is characterized by experimenting with all kinds of materials and techniques that, often, borrow from other disciplines. For Susana, the external aspect of the publication is directly related to what its pages treasure, so that it is the content that determines the external appearance of the book and the choice of materials, creating a continent that has to be up to par. Of content.

In this course you will learn how to make an artist's book using techniques that will allow you to open the book completely, since the type of binding you will learn with Susana does not have any type of staple, stitching or interruption of the image; This type of binding is the result of combining three different techniques: the Japanese concertina, the "perfect binding" (or "American-style binding") and the technique of stitched lids.
