About the final project for: Natural Dyeing of Textiles with Plants

Natural Dyeing of Textiles with Plants

“We have now come to the end of this course. Thank you for the participation! I hope that you had fun and that I was able to share my love for plants with you. It is my dream to give you the tools and knowledge that you need to go on a journey of discovery yourself. The world of vegetable colors can be intimidating. But now you have this course ready as a guide. Before we say goodbye to each other, I would like to give you a few final tips for your final project. My most important tip is: just start! It doesn't have to work right away and it won't always work. It is important to slowly develop a feeling for the craft (and the plants). The process should be fun, surprising, and exciting.

Experimenting and discovering the possibilities of plant coloring is what is the most fun. It is best to use test pieces for this until you are satisfied with the results.
Then you can start your final project. I chose a scarf to illustrate this - but of course you can dye any fabric or garment you like. In any case, I hope you use your newfound knowledge to create something unique that reflects your personality. Play with the process and surprise me (and yourself) with your creativity!
When you're done, I would be happy if you could share your process with us using the "Create your project" button in the forum and exchange ideas with the community. You can also comment on other students' projects and ask questions. We can learn so much from each other! Of course, I'm also happy to give you feedback in the forum. Please be patient if I don't answer right away - I promise to get in touch with you as soon as I can. Cant wait to meet you on the forum and see your results!”

“Final project That is the end of our course and i want the lessons we covered and summarize the new skills we have learned. First I showed you some of the essential tools which we need for the vegetable dyeing of textiles. In particular, the utensils I use when I want to extract natural dyes from plants. I gave you an overview of the plant dyeing process. We learned some of the basic principles of chemistry. We saw what properties natural fibers have and how to distinguish them from synthetic fibers. Then we had an interesting concept to do. The lightfastness. This was about the stability o...”

After finishing her studies in architecture, Ania Grzeszek knew she wanted to dedicate herself to something more creative. That is why she taught herself to weave and fell in love with the craft. She tried dyeing her yarns and textiles herself and then began documenting her learning process on Instagram. She quickly received very positive feedback, put her products on sale, and developed her small textile company: Kaliko.

Ania offers ecologically dyed products, supplied by international yarn and textile stores, she buys her dyeing and weaving materials and teaches courses in her Berlin workshop. The artist focuses on making and manually coloring textiles for different products that she sells around the world. Ania loves to experiment and has fun exploring the endless possibilities offered by materials, dyes, designs, and techniques to create each piece.
