About the final project for: Design and Make Espadrille Sandals

How to create, design and make an espadrille

“Clever! We have reached the end of this course. Thank you for joining me on this adventure and dedicating a little of your time to me. I hope it has inspired you to start creating not just one, but many espadrilles with your textile samples. Above all, I hope you had a good time and that you really enjoy the pleasure of playing, investigating and discovering everything we can do with fabrics. Start looking for many references to work on your mood board, select and group the most significant ones for you. Think that this mood board will serve as a reference throughout the entire process. Starting from those references, start playing and begin your textile development. Don't be afraid if you've never done it, try a lot of things and generate a lot of different samples to choose from. Play is the beginning of the creative process, enjoy.

In order to continue your textile experimentation, choose one of those samples to use on your espadrille. Print the pattern, make the changes and alterations that you consider necessary and apply your technique on it. Cut out the pieces.
Sew your pieces one by one and between them. Mount the textile elements temporarily on the sole with the help of pins. Adjust any small errors in the pattern and make sure you never lose the center of the pieces for reference. Lastly, sew your espadrille using the scallop stitching. Do not forget that this seam is done from left to right. It may be difficult at first but little by little it gets easier. Help yourself with a pliers or other utensil to be able to pull the thread. You already have your espadrille finished!
If you dare, try making a small variation and thus have your second pair of espadrilles.
Now share your final project with all of us by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result of your piece and the steps that have led you to it. Remember that Domestika is a great forum, I encourage you to interact with all colleagues in the community, so we can meet, exchange ideas, opinions and our final course work. ”

From then on, you can start your textile development. You should do this fearlessly. You have to try things out. You need to make mistakes. You have to do all the things you like, and after all that, you need to make a good selection. Whenever you...”

Isabel Río, former textile designer for Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein Collection, and Carolina Herrera, has always been strongly committed to authenticity, legacy, and quality. Travelling frequently throughout her career made her realize that the market was lacking something, so she decided to look to her heritage to find it. That idea was the catalyst to founding ANTONIA'S, her luxury artisan espadrilles brand.

Each collection is a curated selection of high-end pieces crafted by genuine artists that follow the traditional Spanish techniques behind this iconic footwear. With this business model, the brand promotes local art, authenticity, and responsible design.
