“In this lesson, we'll begin adding embellishments to our garment. and we'll start with solid areas. So I've got my shirt here. And I've decided that my solid areas are going to be all in this top area here above the pocket. I think it's a really good area to have more solid embellishment. Your shoulders naturally support a bit more weight, so it won't kind of pull on the garment or won't make it uneven. So I'm going to start off there. So what I've done, I took my design plan where I had my sketches of my shapes, And I've made it bigger so that I know that it's the right size for my shirt. ...”

Jodie Ruffle is an embroidery and embellishment designer based in London. Growing up in a creative household meant she was always making things as a child and eventually went on to study fashion at university. After graduating, she worked as an intern and assistant for various designers, including Alexander McQueen. There she worked on two main collections as well as projects in London and France. Jodie later took a course in couture embellishment at London College of Fashion, which defined her career and solidified her passion for embroidery and embellishment. From there, she studied a master’s in fashion, specializing in embroidery, and had her collection exhibited during London Fashion Week.
Since then, Jodie has worked with various designers on everything from fashion to furniture and often collaborates with other creatives to make unique embroidered pieces with sustainability in mind. She also teaches fashion textiles and design at Middlesex University.
