“Inspirations and Mark Making for Pattern Design In this lesson, we'll look at inspiration and start to do some mark making. When I'm embroidering, working with a client, or working on my project, I start from inspiration images. Sometimes, it's given by a client that I work with, or I find them on my own. Sometimes, I embroider small areas that are turned into garments and I don't know what garment the embroidery will end up on. Jodie Ruffle is an embroidery and embellishment designer based in London. Growing up in a creative household meant she was always making things as a child and eventually went on to study fashion at university. After graduating, she worked as an intern and assistant for various designers, including Alexander McQueen. There she worked on two main collections as well as projects in London and France. Jodie later took a course in couture embellishment at London College of Fashion, which defined her career and solidified her passion for embroidery and embellishment. From there, she studied a master’s in fashion, specializing in embroidery, and had her collection exhibited during London Fashion Week.
Since then, Jodie has worked with various designers on everything from fashion to furniture and often collaborates with other creatives to make unique embroidered pieces with sustainability in mind. She also teaches fashion textiles and design at Middlesex University.
