About the final project for: Introduction to Visual Journalism

Introduction to Visual Reporting

“I hope that everything you have learned in the course will be very useful for your projects and for you to go outside and make your stories. Before we say goodbye, let's review the key phases of the project. It would be great if you briefly explain what you have done in each one and accompany the explanation with one or more images. The story The first step you have to take is to choose the story you want to tell. In the first lesson of Unit 3 I gave you some keys for it. The story that I chose for my project is about a young woman, Penelope, who works and does activism in a place in Mexico City where several dangerous and illegal events have taken place, but still receives thousands of visitors every day.

Previous investigation Investigate if stories similar to the one you are interested in have been published, document yourself on data, statistics, reports from different NGOs and collect all the information possible so that you can do your job more easily.
The characters and the environment Get to know the characters in your story better, their beliefs and customs, also ask as much as possible about the place where that story will take place with your characters, so that you can plan from knowledge the best time to start working. After knowing in depth the characters and problems that you are going to deal with, prepare a rundown; a list of scenes that are going to happen and that you can anticipate.
Selection of material and editing Analyze all the material you have collected, select what helps you to talk about the subject in the most concise and clear way possible. Put all that material together in a format that is accessible and helps your story get more exposure.
Distribution and communication Finally, choose the platform that you think is the right one and start spreading it, you never know who will be able to see it, it is very important that you be self-managed with your work, that will help you open doors for yourself.
Now share your final project with the community by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result and the steps that have led you to it. I am looking forward to seeing your project and giving you feedback. Although I ask for your patience, I will try to access the forum as much as I can and what my professional projects allow me. Finally, I want to invite you to actively participate in the forum, not only sharing your progress, but also giving advice and trying to help the rest of the community. It sure is very enriching! See you on the forum!”

Remember one very important thing for journalists: always look around you look for the stories that are close to you, never lose your curiosity and always question the problems you see around you. Our first jobs will not always be the best, but they will help us gain experience and bring us new knowledge. Always be respectful to the people you work with, That will open doors for you. I invite you to part...”
